Are consultations bulk billed? How much do they cost?
We are not a bulk billing practice; however, we do offer Medicare rebates for eligible services. Some advanced diagnostic tests may incur an out-of-pocket fee, but we’ll always let you know in advance. If you hold a concession or pension card, certain appointments may be eligible for bulk billing.
We allow 45 minutes for typical examinations; however, consultation time can vary depending on your needs and ocular history, or the presenting complaint.

How often should I have my eyes tested?
Everyone’s eyes are different, as is how frequently they should be tested. Our optometrists will always discuss with you when an appropriate review should take place.
Children: Depending on their vision and eye development, children may need eye examinations as frequently as every 3 months, or as infrequently as every 3 years.
Adults: For most adults, especially those over the age of 65, an eye test is typically recommended every 12 months to monitor for age-related changes and maintain optimal eye health.
Do I need a referral for an eye exam at Innovative Eye Care?
No, it is not necessary to have a referral to see an optometrist at Innovative Eye Care. However, if you’ve been referred by an optometrist or ophthalmologist, we do appreciate any referral documentation or information regarding your condition or the reason for your consultation.

At what age should my child have their eyes tested?
Our optometrists at Innovative Eye Care see patients of all ages. We recommend children have an eye examination prior to starting school or sooner if you believe they may have a problem with their eyes or vision.
Our practice has a limited number of 1-hour parking spaces at the front of our practice. Other options nearby are 2-hour paid ticket parking along Hutt Street and a small paid parking lot behind Bocelli Caffe Ristorante on the southwestern corner of Hutt and Wakefield Street.
In many cases, yes. To determine eligibility, our dispensing staff will carefully assess your spectacle frames to ensure they are suitable for re-lensing. There is a lens fitting fee attached to the re-lensing process.
Do you recycle old glasses?
We use Spexcycle to recycle old glasses. Spexcycle breaks down the glasses, reclaims the valuable materials, and uses them to create new designs – keeping the materials in use in the optical industry. A collection box can be found in the practice.
How do I clean and care for my glasses properly?
For day-to-day cleaning use a lens spray and clean microfiber cloth. For deeper cleans, we recommend using ambient temperature tap water and a small amount of mild dish soap. Gently rub the lenses with your fingers, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
Avoid using paper towels or clothing to clean your glasses, as these can scratch the lenses.
Store your glasses in a protective case when not in use to prevent damage. Keep them away from extreme heat, such as leaving them in a hot car, which can warp frames or damage lens coatings.

Am I suitable for contact lenses?
One of our optometrists will be happy to discuss your suitability for contact lenses during a comprehensive examination.
Can children wear contact lenses?
Yes absolutely! If a child is motivated and mature enough, they can be excellent candidates for contact lens wear.
